The Welcome Library
Curated book collections
About us
The Welcome Library is a Bay Area-based organization dedicated to bringing curated libraries to non-profits, community groups, and government agencies that work to help children and unhoused people in need. We believe that reading is vital to childhood development and that lifelong literacy should be open to all. We collect donated books and supply tailored collections to organizations based on the groups they serve.
Why?
Literacy is an integral life skill. Children's access to books has repeatedly been linked to greater academic success and achievement. However, children from low-income communities all too often have less opportunities for contact with books. As opposed to middle-income areas, with thirteen age-appropriate books per child, low-income neighborhoods average one book for every three hundred children. Books spark the imaginations of all, build empathy, and open a door to understanding experiences other than our own. As the digital world becomes increasingly prevalent, books continue to be vital resources to readers worldwide.
